Job Title: Director, Animal Welfare

Location: Kimberley/Cranbrook

Organization: Meant 2B Loved Pet Rescue Society is a volunteer-run animal rescue organization dedicated to fostering and rehoming animals in need.

Reports to: Board of Directors

Role Overview: The Director, Animal Welfare plays a critical role in overseeing the welfare and well-being of animals in the care of Meant 2B Loved Pet Rescue Society. This individual collaborates with the dog lead, cat lead, TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) lead, and Foster Engagement team to ensure appropriate treatment, care, and support for all animals. The Director is responsible for identifying and addressing any welfare issues promptly and working with the board to rectify them as quickly as possible.

Responsibilities:

  1. Animal Care Oversight:
    • Work closely with the dog lead, cat lead, and TNR lead to ensure that all animals in the care of the organization receive appropriate treatment, care, and enrichment.
    • Monitor the health and well-being of animals, identifying any concerns or issues and taking appropriate action to address them.
  2. Foster Engagement and Support:
    • Collaborate with the Foster Engagement team to ensure that foster caregivers are complying with best practices and guidelines for animal care.
    • Provide support and guidance to foster caregivers as needed, addressing questions, concerns, and challenges related to animal care.
  3. Compliance and Best Practices:
    • Ensure that all animal care practices and procedures comply with relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards.
    • Promote and uphold best practices in animal welfare, behavior management, and enrichment for animals in the care of the organization.
  4. Issue Resolution:
    • Act as a point of contact for addressing and resolving any animal welfare issues or concerns raised by volunteers, foster caregivers, or members of the community.
    • Bring any potential welfare issues to the attention of the board of directors, collaborating with them to develop and implement solutions.
  5. Advocacy and Education:
    • Advocate for the humane treatment and ethical care of animals, both within the organization and in the broader community.
    • Provide educational resources and training opportunities for volunteers, foster caregivers, and the public on topics related to animal welfare and care.

Qualifications:

  • Passion for animal welfare and a commitment to the mission of Meant 2B Loved Pet Rescue Society.
  • Knowledge of animal care practices, behavior management, and welfare standards, with experience working with animals preferred.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to remain calm and compassionate in challenging situations and make sound decisions in the best interests of the animals.
