Having fostered other animals until they were ready for adoption, Chezzy McDonald expected that when she took in Gigi, a pocket bully in need of a place to stay, it would be a temporary arrangement until Gigi’s forever home was found. However, after watching Gigi be rejected from potential adopters, she just knew she couldn’t let her go.
“My policy with foster pets was always to get them to somewhere that is best for them, and at that moment, I knew in my heart that for Gigi, that was with us,” Chezzy said. “And therefore, she became my first foster fail, and I am forever grateful.”
Gigi is a sweet and funny girl. She is compact, but muscular and has the sweetest face you’ve ever seen! Most of the time she is a big, lazy lug, but when you catch her with some energy she’s just like a puppy and loves to play! She also enjoys basking in the sun, rolling in the grass, short walks, and most of all long snuggle sessions.
When asked how having Gigi has enhanced her life, Chezzy responded with, “How hasn’t she? Gigi’s love is pure, her joy is contagious, her support is unyielding! She makes me laugh, gives me kisses when I cry, and even though we don’t speak the same language, my brother once said that the way Gigi looks at me is what love looks like, and that language is universal. She is my canine soulmate and has been describes as ‘me but as a dog’. I am seriously grateful every single day that she came into my life, and whatever struggles, whatever burden, she has been worth it.”
So, having experienced her first foster fail, would Chezzy still recommend becoming a foster to others?
“Absolutely! Because an animal really can change your life just as much as you can change theirs, and in the very best possible way. There are so many unloved pets out there who just need a chance, so why bother looking at places that are just creating more? Somewhere out there could already be your animal soulmate. All you have to do is open your home and your heart to them.”
