When members of Meant 2B Loved Pet Rescue’s Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) team head out in response to reports of feral cats, they never quite know what they’ll find. Sometimes it is frightened kittens born outdoors. Sometimes, it’s cats who have survived on scraps for years.
So, when they trapped a scruffy white-and-grey tomcat who had been seen around the same property for about three years, it seemed like a typical rescue day. His coat was dirty, his expression weary – signs of a long and difficult life outdoors. He was taken to the vet to be neutered and ear-tipped, the usual plan for community cats who will return to their territory.
But fate had other plans.
During surgery, the vet noticed a broken canine tooth—one that must have caused him constant pain. It was removed, and as he awoke from anesthesia, the clinic team realized this cat might not be feral after all. There was something gentle in his eyes, something that spoke of trust long buried but not forgotten.
One of the vet staff, who also fosters for Meant 2B Loved, brought him home to recover. Within days, her suspicions were confirmed: this boy was no wild cat. He leaned into pets, purred freely, and soaked up affection like he’d been waiting years for it. She named him Jimothy.
A tail-chasing goofball with a deep love of couch cuddles, Jimothy blossomed in foster care. When he was finally ready for adoption, he captured the hearts of a family who saw exactly what made him special.
Enter Karen and her family, who gave Jimothy a new home—and a new nickname.
“We call him Jimmy Shoebean,” Karen said. “He’s the sweetest boy. He’s explored every corner of the house and made a new friend, Lola—our daughter’s friend’s cat who’s staying with us. They became instant playmates, chasing each other up and down the halls at night. It’s been pure joy to watch.”
Jimmy has also found a deep bond with Karen’s daughter, often curling up beside her to sleep.
“He starting to seek out laps for snuggles more too,” Karen added. “We’re so grateful for this loving little guy. He’s exactly the kitty we were hoping to find.”
After years of surviving alone, Jimmy Shoebean finally found what he’d been waiting for—a family, a friend, and a warm place to rest his head. And we’re pretty sure this time, he’s home for good.
