When the Wallis family opened their home to foster a couple of kittens, adoption wasn’t on their minds..
“They came to us as foster kittens and settled into our home like they were meant to be here. The reality that we may want to adopt one started to become a possibility. We had a hard time deciding which one to adopt because we loved each of their unique personalities. So, in October 2022, we ended up adopting them both. Our black kitty is “Briquette” which frequently gets shortened to “Birkie” & our tortie girl started off as “Lightfoot” (she has one light coloured leg and paw) but my husband had trouble remembering it. He called her “Lighthouse” and “Lightbeam” & many other similar names. So we decided to shorten the name so he could remember it. She is now “Lufa” (which in Scandinavian means love).”
Lufa seems to be content with her new name and she fits it well. Briquette was very shy when she first came to the family but now she acts like the alpha sister. Her daily joy is grabbing the end of the dog’s leash and sitting on it until my husband takes the dog out (our dogsitter). She’s strong & independent but also very loving when she chooses to be. Lufa is our scamp, very curious & immensely affectionate. She’s definitely the velcro kitty of the two.
Birkie and Lufa are almost a year old, love getting brushed and having their nails clipped (their spa time), playing with their tunnel, and squiggies (spirals). They even have their own bedroom equipped with all their needs.
“They have brought so much joy to our household. We haven’t had cats since our cat passed of old age in 2012 and we thought we could never replace her. But these two have completely stolen our hearts, even though they do have their naughty moments. Our wee dog (who’s 11 years old) took some time to get used to having two new critters in the house but they are all friends now and even sleep together.”
The Willis’ would highly recommend fostering/adopting a rescue, finding it a very heartwarming and rewarding experience.
“I highly commend all the hardworking people who volunteer for Meant 2 Be Loved Pet Rescue Society. Special thanks to Ruth for her help and support throughout our fostering and to Stacie for allowing us to foster two of her fostered litter. And thank you also to the individuals and businesses who support them. The Paw Shop in Cranbrook has been wonderful to us and our pets. Owner Stephanie will bend over backward to accommodate her customers.”
Sounds like a happy ending for all involved.
