A life-changing foster experience

Share

Rudy (formerly Carter) has turned 2 now and has been with us for just over a year. He has been such a wonderful addition to our family and a great example of how beneficial fostering is. We were hoping to add another dog to our family but I was imagining a bigger dog- something more like a husky cross. We wanted a dog that would keep up with us on all of our adventures. My partner mountain bikes and I long distance run. We fostered Rudy who is a chihuahua with no intention of keeping him, especially after reading some info on the internet on chihuahuas! They are described as yappy and difficult to potty train. After committing to foster Rudy, we were a little nervous for what we got ourselves into! Haha. When Rudy arrived, he was the exact opposite of the description of the breed. Rudy has fit so perfectly into our family, and had we not had the opportunity to foster and get to know his personality, we likely would’ve never considered a chihuahua for our family!

Being a small dog, he certainly doesn’t slow us down either! He keeps up with my partner on mountain bike rides, gets many smiles from people as he jogs with me, and enjoys camping (so long as he has a fleece on, haha).

I hope others will consider fostering before adopting. We are very happy we did!
