A sweet and gentle Papillon, he may take a minute to warm up, but once he is comfortable, he will never leave your side. A big cuddle bug, happy to curl up anywhere. He does not like to be alone, so will do best in an environment where someone is home most of the time. He is quiet, but may bark when no one is home or if you happen to close a door separating you from him. This little old man is seeking a quiet, calm retirement home so he can live out his days in well-deserved peace.
Newt loves short walks and long naps, so if you are looking for a hiking companion, you should be prepared to carry him, but if you are looking for someone to binge Netflix with, he is good to go.
Newt had a little trouble with potty training at the start, but with consistency acknowledging his cues, and strategically placed puppy pads, that little problem has eliminated itself. He does prefer to do his number two’s outside of his own yard.
Newt is hard of hearing, but he does his best and will watch you intently to try to surmise your meanings. Arthritis is starting to show in his back legs, and he is in dire need of dental work, which we at M2BL will follow up on, at our expense.
He can be a bit of a picky eater, preferring mostly soft food, but this may be due to soreness from bad teeth. He will get into the garbage if given the opportunity.
Newt seems to have little interest in other dogs and will usually distance himself from hyper, or more playful types. He shows some interest in cats, but understands they need their space.
Newt is fine with kids, but again, will not be playful, and will most likely distance himself from them. Shows no aggression toward them.
This from Newt’s foster mom:
“All in all, a very good boy, and the person who gets to share their life with this one, will be far richer for it. I believe he would be best suited to a relaxed home with a retiree or someone who works from home, preferably as an only dog (though he has previously lived with a cat, and I think would be fine with doing so again).”
