Roger is sweet and gentle boy. He’s calm, rarely barks and does not jump up on people or furniture (although he would gladly sleep on the couch or the bed, if allowed!). He loves belly rubs and snuggles in general. He walks well on leash with his harness and can stay alone for long periods of time with no issues, no need to kennel him. He seems to love women especially and comes to look for his foster mum if she is in another room. He sleeps on his bed and never wakes us up at night. He is also fun and goofy and likes to bounce around the yard, he is not very interested in his toys but likes to play fetch with sticks. He is easily startled and is cautious of large and loud things. He slips on hard flooring and much prefers to walk on carpeting.

He gets along fine with his foster’s Dachshund and seems ok with small dogs that he meets on walks; however, he has developed leash-reactivity to large dogs when out walking. Since he was first fostered for two months with a large dog (and loved him!), we believe this reactivity is out of frustration that he hasn’t been allowed to run free with other large dogs. We are working with a trainer on his on-leash issues.

He had been previously tested with cats and was fine; however, his previous adopter’s cats and he did not get along (he didn’t take kindly to the them attacking him..LOL); therefore, we would suggest a home with no cats.

Unfortunately, Roger has bad knees (cartilage/arthritis) possibly from an old injury or cruciate ligament that has now healed. So he has been avoiding playing with other dogs; however, new information has come to light so his therapy treatments have been altered and he has been taken off pain meds; he is still on Recovery (a glucosamine chondroitin supplement).

He is currently in intensive therapy with a holistic vet (laser/chiro) that will be finished in early July; then maintenance treatments a few times a year would be recommended; the vet has given the okay for light exercise even with other dogs! (this should help with his leash-reactivity).

Overall, with a bit of patience, reassurance and a lot of love, Roger will make a wonderful and devoted companion! Please check out the video under comments.
